Parent Volunteer Club
Our PVC groups are a beloved part of our preschool, from the perspective
of both theparents and the teachers. Parent Volunteer Club consists of
a group of parents for each the three-year-old classes and the Pre-K classes.
These parents commit to coming to school once a month to work with the
children. As the parents learn aboutour curriculum philosophy, they plan
and carry out learning activities for the children. We love seeing how
the parents come up with their own ideas to implement with our classes
(under the guidance of school staff) and the children love the exciting
events they get to try out with their parents! Activities range from trying
out different textures (such as “clean mud”, cornstarch, and
wet and dry pasta) in our sensory bins, to painting (with objects such
as pinecones, vegetables, toys, and even brooms!), to obstacle courses
that allow the children to try out balance beams, throwing, hula hoops,
and tunnels. We find that the parents who participate in our PVC groups
make friends for life. They tell us they feel that their time spent volunteering
gives them far more than they give to it!
